Slag is an incredibly toxic mutagen than tends to pool in some areas where humans, particularly Hyperion, have been experimenting. Ingesting or being exposed to Slag can cause severe and sometimes ghastly mutations. Most dogs exposed to Slag merely become gravely ill and die, but some survive the sickness and begin to develop horrific mutations as a result.
Slagged dogs are a RARE occurrence, people are allowed two freebie slagged canines, any others after that must gain approval.
Allowed Slag Mutations:
Extra Limbs: usually limited to small vestigial nubs, fairly useless and mostly an eyesore. Can include extra ears or tails, offspring of a slagged female have an extremely rare chance of being conjoined with a twin.
Extra eyes: Can form anywhere on the body, from one extra to dozens, afflicted dogs tend to suffer from very acute sensory overload, especially to light, but full vision from these eyes doesn't work.
Bone and flesh growths: Usually manifesting as large brittle protrusions, these are grotesque and tend to be the source for a lot of infection in the afflicted. Can be bare bone or fleshy.
Slag Vomit: Constant oozing of the glowing Purple liquid from the mouth, can also cause a nasty odor. The Slag that oozes from the mouth is toxic, so these afflicted are often completely ostracized by other canines.
Glowing: Probably the least invasive mutation, causes glowing purple markings, almost resembling "runes" along the body in various patterns. There have been whispered rumors of cults forming that worship these afflicted.
